Summer Series 2009
The summer series ended with a most unusual score event at Templars Park, involving a map with no controls marked on it. Many thanks to Tim and the rest of the Gomersalls for running the event, and to all the other planners, coaches and helpers who have contributed to the 19 weeks of the series. We couldn't run such a long series without the willingness of many club members to help. It has been good this year to have several new people taking on an event, and I hope no one has been daunted by the unexpectedly large numbers who turned up at some events. With a bit of judicious recycling of maps the organisation held together and everyone got the run they wanted.
It has been a hugely successful series this year, with 385 people taking part
(plus around 50 from school and guide groups) and just over 1300 runs in
total, almost 200 up on last year. Numbers were boosted this year by the
ActivityMixers, and we're delighted that many of these have continued with
their orienteering since the Decathlon event and have joined the club.
Welcome to you, and all the other new members who have joined in the last few
months.
The Templars Park event was followed by a barbeque and prizegiving, and
mercifully it was a clear dry evening so we got through everything before
darkness descended. The summer series league is calculated by awarding points
to the top 6 finishers on each course and calculating the average points per
event for each competitor, with a minimum of 6 events to count (4 for the
medium and short courses). The results were:
Short:
1. Scott Rae
2. Keith Yardley
3. Josie Gomersall
Medium:
1. Pauline Anderson
2. Oonagh Grassie
3. Ross McMurtrie
Short technical:
1. Gordon Urquhart
2. Andrew Campbell
3. Rhona McMillan
Technical:
1. Duncan Grassie
2. Evgueni Chepelin
3. Pete Lawrence
Congratulations to them all. Special mention in despatches also to Sasha
Chepelin (M12) who regularly ran the technical course and finished well up in
the results, including one win at Crathes.
Well done also to all the gold, silver and bronze award winners. Those
chocolate coins obviously work as an incentive to keep coming to the events!
The glory (no prize!) for the most events attended goes to Calum McLeod with
15 (and one of those he didn't run in was at Foggieton where'd he'd planned to
courses).
If anyone wasn't at Templars and would like their prizes from the league or
awards scheme, contact
Anne.
