New BOF Challenge Standards for L3/L2 events:
After a tip off from Rob Hickling for the Bennachie
results, I've been searching for info on the new BOF Challenges in lieu of the
old Colour Badges and after following a link from a
Nopesport thread to the
BOF Development Committee minutes on the
subject, I think I've interpreted this correctly as below.
British Orienteering Navigation Challenge
Designed as an incentive to those who enjoy the sport and want to progress but
aren't one of those whizzy characters who can run like the wind! If you complete
3 courses at a given level, you are eligible for a Star Award and can claim a
certificate (although at the moment I don't know how you'd go about claiming.)

British Orienteering Racing Challenge
Designed as an incentive to those who enjoy the sport and want to progress and
can run like the wind. If you complete 3 courses in a given time, you are
eligible for a Racing Challenge Award and can claim a certificate.
The given time is calculated as follows:
Gold Award time = 12.5 mins x course length in km
Silver Award time = 15 mins x course length in km
Bronze Award time = 20 mins x course length in km
Yes - this is terrain dependant but BOF figure it's a
better way than comparing your time with the winner's time which can lead to
some strange results if the winner is running a lower level course than they
should be.
No - this is not the same Gold/Silver/Bronze criteria as used for Championship
standards.
Colour Standards
Although I have added these Gold/Silver/Bronze time limits to the Crathes
results for all courses except White, I've also kept in the old Colour Standard
times as SOA are still using this for their Junior Badge Awards Scheme as far as
I know.
Still not sure whether the Racing Challenge applies to
White but I know Juniors will enjoy being able to measure themselves against
something so have include times for White too .
